Components, from left to right: i = mechanical power input from internal combustion engine TD = torque dampener P1 = planetary gear set #1 MG-A = motor/generator A P2 = planetary gear set #2 MG-B = motor/generator B P3 = planetary gear set #3 C1 = clutch 1 (stationary) C2 = clutch 2 (rotating) o = mechanical power output from hybrid drive unit Note the three planetary gear sets are compounded: The sun gear of P1 is coupled to the ring gear of P2 The sun gears of P2 and P3 are coupled The pinion carriers of P1 and P2 are coupled, and may be selectively coupled to the output shaft when C2 is engaged
